I spend a lot of time shooting in the studio and had a chance to step outside my comfort zone and photograph singer/songwriter Kate Clark.Â
When I do shoot outside, I like to incorporate elements in the background into my composition. In this video, for Paul C. Buff, Inc., I utilized the high speed sync feature of their new LINK 800WS flash unit. High speed sync allows you to exceed your sync speed when using off camera flash in an environment where you can't control the available light (like the outdoors). One thing a lot of photographers love about HSS is that it allows you to get proper exposure for both your subject and the background while using a large aperture to get that blurred/bokeh effect.
